What is pH-balance?

Have you ever read, “pH balanced” and wondered what it meant? From irritation, dryness to infections pH levels can either resolve or cause further distress to your skin. Before we get into the nitty gritty about skin and pH, let’s first discuss what pH means.
pH is short for ‘potential to free hydrogen ions’ and is a measurement of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. pH values range between 0 and 14, with values at either end being quite extreme and potentially dangerous, leading to chemical burns, for example. A pH of 7.0 is considered neutral. Anything below 7 is considered acidic and anything above 7.0, alkaline.

It's time to flip some intimate hygiene myths!
(Click to Bust the Myth)

MYTH#1
Vulva odour is usually a result of improper cleaning.

BUST - Contrary to popular belief, vulva odour is usually a result of imbalanced intimate skin pH, NOT improper cleaning.

MYTH#2
Vaginal discharge means you have a yeast infection.

BUST - Vaginal discharge is normal. The vagina’s discharge will change throughout a menstrual cycle due to different hormone levels.

MYTH#3
You should wash your intimate skin with soap.

BUST - Using certain soaps or body washes can cause intimate skin pH imbalance, altering the vulvovaginal environment, meaning that bacteria or fungal organisms can overgrow.

MYTH#4
Dryness only happens to Menopausal women.

BUST - Menopausal women are NOT the only ones who experience vaginal dryness, lack of lubrication, or painful sex. There are several common causes of vaginal dryness that affect us all.

MYTH#5
You can cure intimate hygiene problems with home remedies.

BUST - The first thing most women do when suffering from intimate skin problems is they try out different kinds of home remedies which can do more harm than good as your intimate skin has different pH level and needs special care.

MYTH#6
You don’t need to cleanse the vulva.

BUST - Doctors often say that the vagina is self-cleaning but the skin on the vulva is not self-cleaning (remember female anatomy here). Sweat, dirt, and oil can buildup on the vulva just as it does anywhere else on the body. That means that this skin needs to be cleaned just as often as you would cleanse the skin on your body.
